ISI behind Shivendra Singh’s ban

India’s crushing defeat of Pakistan in their league opener in Pool B of the ongoing World Cup came with a price. Alleges, Zafar Iqbal the former India Captain,“ Shivendra Singh’s ban is the after-effect of ISI interfering in every game that India play against Pakistan.” Our Sports Correspondent who was at the post-match press conference doggedly tailed Zafar Bhai to the 1* accommodation provided by the Hockey India (HI) officialdom for former coaches and got him to spare a few moments for a further explanation. Excerpts from the chat: 

“Walaikkum Salaam!”

“You mentioned an ISI plot after Shivendra was banned for three matches and then now it is down to two matches.”

“Yes, I did and I categorically state that the FIH officials again were cowed down by the ISI’s unseen hand behind the scenes and that is why Shivendra was banned for a minor fault.”

“How are you confident that it is ISI which is doing this?”

“Did the on-field umpires find fault with Shivendra? No! His act was not reckless but only aggressive. If one cannot be aggressive in a game, how can one win any game?”

“Who, according to you, was the one to bring the charges against Shivendra?”

“I don’t want to name anybody at the risk of exposing my source in the ISI, but the evidence is there for all to see. The video footage was later tampered to suit the charge against Shivendra.”

“How do you know the video footage was tampered?”

“Arrey bhai, I told you know, the FIH officials have always discriminated against us, they brought in astro-turf so that our skills were of no use. A hockey stick is like a magic wand. And if we are not allowed to weave magic like Dhyaan Chandji, then what is the fun of seeing speed, strength and stamina only? The ISI chaps do not want to see our magical skills with the hockey stick because their players themselves do not know how to use the stick, other than shoving it up you know where. Allah, mujhe maaf kar do!”

“So you think it is a long standing conspiracy between the ISI and Western Powers to remove India from the elite league of hockey playing nations?”

“Yes, look what the Aussies did to us last night. First, they made sure that we become afraid by maiming and killing, by ISI moles, our students who go to Australia for studying and later on working and then flaunt their wealth by flashing costly gadgets, and then they use their connections with the ISI in the FIH and impose the ban on Shivendra. They are afraid of Shivendra’a hockey stick, because whenever it is raised it hits a player over the eye. With Shivendra out of the way, they were able to beat us easily. The cowards!”

“ But their game was superior last night, Zafarji”

“Yes, the ISI used superior technology to alter the pictures and make it seem that the Aussies won. Were you there at the stadium? The score line was 5 against India and one for India. We had more goals!!”

“Duh” 

And so the conspiracy theory’s abound every time Indian players are sent off the field or the rules of the game changed.
