Cleanair, an NGO devoted to environment cleaning and reducing air pollution, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Supreme Court of India accusing various companies of playing with the environment of India and with the health of its people. The NGO has named around 100 companies as party to the PIL. Some of the major companies mentioned in the petition are Archies, Hallmark, Bennett & Colemon and T-Series. Some Internet-based media companies like Rediff and online auction and shopping websites like eBay have also been mentioned in the petition.
The Petition complains that while these companies are propagating that an element called 'love' is in the air currently, they have not divulged whether this element is good for plant, animal and human health or not. The petition states that since these companies knew beforehand that our atmosphere has been polluted by this element, they should come clean and release all relevant information about the element in the public domain. They should be made to reveal how they got this information and compelled to reveal the source of this pollution. The petition further states that in case it is found out that the news about element 'love' being in the air is false or if it is found that the so called element is harmful to people's health, then the companies should be fined.
The petition was filed by famous environmentalist Raj Jethmalani on behalf of CleanAir. Later speaking to the media, Mr.Jethmalani said that his client CleanAir wants to stop multinational companies from playing with the health of people. "These companies have been shouting for a long time that the thing called 'love' is in the air. They should now come clean and reveal the correct chemical properties of the 'love' element. The people of the country deserve to know the composition of this element and whether it is good or bad for us. In case it is found to be toxic, government should find the source of its origin and immediately stop the release of such a harmful product in the atmosphere.” said Mr. Jethmalani.
Jethmalani accused the corporations of leaking unhealthy, toxic variant of the 'love' element in the atmosphere to make people artificially fall in love during the month of February to boost the sales of their valentine products. "The scientific evidence that we have of the 'love' element till now suggests that it is produced by bodily hormones like testosterone in men, oxytocin in women, dopamine, adrenaline and endorphin that act as neurotransmitters in the brain which when released gives rise to euphoric feelings of love. The release of these hormones varies from person to person depending on their health and close encounters with the opposite sex. As of now, scientists haven't yet discovered any method to artificially create 'love' in a laboratory. So how is it possible for this element to get released in the air in gargantuan quantities all over the world simultaneously during the middle of February unless it was a fake, toxic strain manufactured by them in their labs and released in the atmosphere before Valentine day to encourage people to experience fake love in order to sell their Valentine Day products?"
Jethmalani gave the example of the television show "Emotional Attyachar" as an example of the damaging effects of the toxic variant of 'love'. "Millions of young men and women catch the harmful, polluting strain of love released by these companies during the valentine season and fall in love with the next schmuck they meet disregarding natural warning signals given by their brains. This fake, toxic love element acts as a virus by mimicking the body's hormonal functions resulting in artificial inducement of feelings of love which consequently results in their falling in love with the wrong person, which later when the effects of the fake love element wear off, results in tremendous mental and emotional suffering." said Jethmalani. "It is high time that we stopped being tools and victims of corporate manipulation techniques. We cannot allow corporates to play with our health, our environment and with our emotions for the sake of their profits” added Mr. Jethmalani.
