Facebook's Mafia Wars Makes Dream Of Owning Mafia Gang Come True
Mumbai—As a teenager, Maverick58 never thought he would have the opportunity to own and operate a completely fabricated Mafia gang and opportunity to take on other mafia gangs. But thanks to Facebook's popular application Mafia Wars, Maverick58 has turned his dream into a virtual reality.
"As long as I can remember, I've pictured myself owning a multipolygonal 3-D representation of what a Mafia gang might be in the real world," said Maverick58, who has invested thousands of actual hours in accumulating digital representations of weapons like Tommy Guns, Colt Pistols, Machine Pistols, Sawed-off Shot Guns, Bullet Proof Vests and Virtual Delivery Trucks, Armored Sedans, Getaway Cruisers and Speed Boats. He has also spent millions of virtual dollars in buying 3-D representations of Italian Restaurents, Office Buildings, Valu-Marts, Marina Tourist Shops and Mega Casinos.
"Since I've never been too interested in actually doing rough mafia jobs like collecting protection money, roughing up dealers, taking out rogue cops, performing hits, robbing banks and jewelry stores, cross-border smuggling or running matkas except inside a complex computer simulation, running this simulated Mafia operation has been the greatest experience of my life."
Contrary to popular beliefs, Mafia Wars application is not completely safe and sanitised way of operating mafia gangs. Even though its just a highly mechanical, entirely programmed and quite predictable simulation of actual gang warfares, the game is not without its chills, scares and suspenses that actual fresh-and-blood gangsters routinely encounter in their daily lives.
Maverick58 got the fright of his life yesterday, when he woke up in the morning to find that his slate has been wiped clean. "I was zapped out of my wits when I logged in and discovered that all my fictitious armoury, properties, vehicles, bank balance and gang members had vaporized overnight and I had been relegated back to the lowly ranks of a level-one street thug. The few nerve-wracking hours that I spent in virtual state of suspended animation was as scary and terrifying as a rough life-and-death battle with rival gangsters. Thankfully it was just a software bug and all of my precious 3D possessions were restored back later in the day." said Maverick58
Maverick58's ultimate dream is to become a virtual Godfather and though he doesn't know whether Zynga's Mafia Wars application will allow him to become a digital Godfather at the end of the highest level of the game, the aspiration of becoming a virtual version of the Godfather, keeps him completely absorbed and fully engaged in operating his virtual Mafia Gang.
