May be if Stephen Hawking reads Indian Newspapers , he would have been
thanking God for not being born in India.With the amount of disability
he has, no parent in India would have dreamed of him being alive, leave
alone the fact reaching his position.With the latest controversy of Mehta
couple having the rights of aborting their child or not,since doctor
expect him to come up with a rare heart disease and may also cause his
premature death, the attention has been focused on millions of foetus'
and in turn on millions of sperms mating with the eggs.Only if the poor child could hear all the people around him discussing about the number of diseases he/she could have , he/she would have committed suicide rather then coming out of womb of his/her mother.The whole discussion has brought back the attention to the theory of chance or probability as we call it mathematically.So from know on we could be getting question that what is the chance of a sperm matting with a egg will produce a normal child.If decision was left to child will born only if he/she has 100% probability of being born.If such was the case none of would have been born.
Parenting has become an hard task these days and with the demands of time where children start competing with each other for family honours very early , any child born like that would be difficult to be looked after and also would cause shame in social circle.It's better to kill that child before his birth rather then face the huge task of parenting and try to give him the life which he/she was destined for.Is it not that we are moving to the idea of perfect world ,where we would have same kinds of human being around us.Any kind of abnormality would be considered as cause for mercy killing.
Or the reason may be that we have stopped looking at positives, instead of looking at half full glass we tend to look at the half empty glass.May be that's is why we are not ready to look at the chance that child may be born normal.Whole attention is towards the mother,because she can shout and she talks of our apprehensions that our children will be loser..So everybody gets united to get that looser out.We hate losers, or somebody who can be a loser.
This is the new face of humanity and our way of showing the world that we have become advanced,while rest of the world stops killing after 14 weeks, we will kill the poor foetus after 24 weeks.If we talk about stopping abortion we will be labeled as religious and fundamentalist country.But as one of the protagonist in Juno says "Remember it has fingers by this time".
