Ulhasnagar, Thane: With the 'Free Tibet' movement gaining momentum, it has started inspiring similar movements worldwide. Closer to home, the hue and cry Tibetans have been making has inspired and prompted some prominent Sindhis of India to reopen their long, forgotten demand of a separate state of Sindh within the boundaries of India.
Lekhraj Advani, chairman of the newly conveyed front "Sindh Statehood Campaign" (SSC) said at a rally organized in Ulhasnagar, a Sindhi-dominant town in the district of Thane, Maharashtra said "Unlike Tibetans who are demanding freedom from China, we are proud Indians and our demand is limited to only creation of a separate state for Sindhis"
"Sindhis are the only prominent linguistic group of India that have been denied a statehood. Like the poor Tibetans, we were expelled from our original homeland, the state of Sindh, now in Pakistan. Just like the Tibetans, we came to India as refugees after experiencing violence, looting and rioting in our homeland during the partition riots." said Mr Advani"We left behind our lands and homes and sacrificed all our possessions to rejoin our country after the partition. But despite being citizens of India, we were ignored by the government of India and left to rot in filthy barracks and refugees camps." added Lejhraj Advani.
Bhagwan Gidwani, author of the acclaimed book "The return of the Aryans" pointed out that since they had no prominent political leader to fight for their cause during the time of partition, Sindhis got a raw deal from the leaders of the country for whom partitioning the country was a quick fire way to realize their goal of securing power during their lifetimes.
"If Punjab & Bengal could be partitioned, what prevented Nehru and other leaders from partitioning Sindh too and handing it over to those Sindhis who were forced to flee from Pakistan during the partition riots?" asked Gidwani
Meanwhile, at the offices of onionuttapam.com, Sunil Bhuneja, one of the promoters of this site, got into a furious argument with Anshul Srivastava, a prominent sypathizer for the Tibatan cause and co-promoter of this site, "I refuse to support your cause of free Tibet, until and unless you become a sympathizer for the cause of Sindh statehood".
