Eco-Terrorism

E-mail Print PDF
The previous occupant of my flat here must have been one, bitten by the green bug or had a huge guilt complex. Of late, my pastime is just to catalog the various exhortations that drop in through the mail slot or by courier. There is a preponderance of what I snickeringly call "green" pamphlets from various charities across the world. Apparently the man was a dollar-to-every-campaign donor. May God bless his soul. After the Super-Sunday orgy of sport, I woke up yesterday[07/07/2008] around the time when people normally would be thinking of opening their dabbas or nursing dreams of taking their secretary out for a lunch and some wet desserts. And the adrenalin-down-rush washed all over me. For lack of nothing else to do I picked the top leaflet from the charity Practical Action which was asking, nay, soliciting for a donation for some "real cutting-edge technology" to give to African farmers: namely, a plough. And I went duh? I mean a plough cuts through the soil and has been doing it for more than 500 years or so..where does the "cutting-edge technology" crap come from?

ecoterrorism.jpgAs the goras get all hysteric about greenhouse gases and climate change, they thrust the so called third world with the spears of 'sustainable development' guaranteed to keep the status quo of poverty at the abysmal lows of Dantes' Hell on the Hadesian river of water pumps operated by pulling on a rope or knee-breakingly treading on a platform of wood and in a grand sense of innovation, making them roundabouts for children. Child labour is given a wink. But why? This is being done right from the western coast of Africa to India where 60% of labour is involved in agriculture with a contribution of just 1% to the GDP. All these, perhaps are being offered to assuage their guilt-ridden souls to persuade us from moving away from diesel-powered machinery which would increase our productivity to what they have to offer for the sins committed by them. And incidentally, the Old Empire ad outlawed these very devices in their own prisons way back in the 19th century.

These bleeding-heart elites cannot look beyond their myopic vision of a development that is economic; by us and China that has lifted millions out of poverty and rather than laud us, brand us as 'climate criminals'. Beset with crass stupidity, their way of saving the planet is scaling-down their consumption[which the idiots should have done long back; the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012 and the world's biggest polluter is still bashful about sitting on the board] and, get this, to prevent development abroad. Not for a second did it cross their mind that China is the 129th poorest and India down at the 167th on Planet Earth. it all depends on which side of the line you are. The goras put the environment at the centre while we put the people at the centre. Thus, the matrix changes.

So the eco-terrorists, in 2007 slashed 4 billion euros of Aid from the EU to the "3rd world" countries and since they control the WB they buried mined-objections that exploded the funding to infrastructure projects that would have provided power to 5000 villages, various industries employing skilled labour preventing migration to urban conglomerates that themselves are bursting at the seams with their civic infrastructure being strained to the limits and beyond. That money would have provided money for irrigation of crops and most importantly potable water and sewage treatment plants. And all this for 35 million people. Where? In Gujarat. But why was it stopped? All because one eco-terrorist embedded in India said, "It would change the path of the river, kill little creatures along its banks and uproot tribal people". And went on a fast unto death. The tribals were offered relocation. but no, the eco-terrorist had her way with a few 'celebrities' who dropped in for a photo-op. And that was that.

Unable to think beyond their noses the UN has banned kerosene, promoting the use of charcoal, the burning of which kills 5 million young people from diseases caused by indoor wood-smoke inhalation, annually. Rather than promote Organic farming amongst their constituents, the goras promote it in the '3rd world' thereby preventing 840 million people from having nutritious food. The guilt-driven goras hide their continuing carbon emissions through the network of green-with-guilt charities impose drudgery on an already impoverished lot. Whereas it should be the other way around. They should go back to break their backs on the cutting edge technology of the plough and aggressively promote mechanised agriculture to improve our economies, rather than ask us to plant trees for more firewood.

Any student of social history would know that progress is not inhibited by sanctions but by getting above them. A brief back-look on the last century's progress would tell the student that, although global population quadrupled, human wealth quintupled. The reason for this rapid and perilous growth is simple: medical and nutritional advances in developing countries led to a population explosion following World War 2. Food production steadily outstripped population growth, and today we still produce enough to feed everyone on earth, and billions more. People starve because they can't afford food - not because it doesn't exist. Human ingenuity has overcome resource shortages time and again, developing new technologies, using commodities more efficiently, overcoming scarcity and improving our living standards. The real question is why, given this historical record, we seem to have completely lost faith in our ability to keep doing this. Or is there a more sinister agenda unknownst to us?

Having reached a certain satiation level in their wants and needs, both without depravity and with depravity, the goras have lost their ambition to constantly evolve into a higher spiritual plane which the eastern half of the world has not lost sight of. Whether they like it or not the investment by the Chinese, in the past 5 years has doubled growth rates, in southern Africa. Rather than quibble and push their nightmares of eco-disaster the goras should join hands and push faster to distribute cleaner, efficient technology that would adapt to environmental changes and make this world a better place to live in.

And oh!!, by the way where is the "2nd world"??
