We regretfully announce the passing of a good old friend, Common Sense, who had been with us for ages. We didnt know how old he was, since his birth records were lost to the media-plague of disinformation and we are sure that the Governments long ago decided to bury him, in their officialese with redtape dishonours.
Actually, he lived by his own complex yet simply profound fiscal policies; examples of which now abound with wringing hands and credit-card collectors' knocking on our doors for, we spent more than we earned and let our imbecile children like Jhaatu and Dick run our world's economy using their kids bluster of remote controlled guns, airplanes and 'nuk-leer' submarines. And locally, in India also, since we are so obssessed with gori chamdi we let a manic-depressive phorener to puppeteer our own brown-skinned libido-challenged, what-else-to-do-'men' to lead us on the path of rotten-tomatos being thrown in Democracy's house called the Lok-Sabha. We shed tears when her son slept in the open with gaun-wallahs and had to eat skimpy dinners while being bitten with mosquitoes and when her poor, poor daughter went to jail to meet the alleged assassin of her father we shed copious tears while our good friend, Common Sense was whispering in our ears, that it was all a gimmick to stem the political rot.
Sadly, his health began to go down-hill rapidly when foolish-intentioned and what-can-you-do regulations were put in place. Newspaper reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for hugging a classmate; teenagers suspended from school for chewing mouth-freshners like Happy Breath Fresh, after eating boiled rotten-egg lunch served at mid-day meals in the school; and a teacher dismissed for asking an unruly student to stand on the bench in kaan-pakkad with hands through legs fashion, only worsened his condition. His failing health drooped when stupid parents, who had not time for their children busy as they were toiling like ants and enjoying mind numbing Ekta Kapoor's serials, attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. His health slid even further when schools were required to get parental agreement, signed in triplicate, to give mineral-salts to children who suffered sun-stroke while they stood in the hot sun during morning assembly or a Saridon to a student who complained of headache; but were prevented by law not to inform parents when a girl-student became pregnant and the evening papers reported it with a picture of their daughter in banner headlines.
Common Sense lost the will to live as places of worship became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims by becoming Chief Minsiters and later as Union Ministers and became case studies by leading Management Institutes allover the country. Elsewhere in the world our friend, Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. And he finally gave up the will to live, after a stupid woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was actually hot and spilt a little on her clefted-lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was sadly preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust his wife, Discretion his daughter, Responsibility his son.
He is survived by his 4 step brothers:
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim
It was only we who had attended his funeral because the multitude had long forgotten his presence amongst them being busy carrying on their mundane lives as wage slaves and not stopping to smell the roses along the way and smelling the wet Earth after a bout of spring-scented first summer shower; very few realised he was gone. RIP, friend.
