A few quesions and answers based on the feedback that we have recieved about our site from friends, well-wishers and of course, haters.
Onion Uttapam! Aren't you just another me-too site, a second-hand clone of the awesome American satire site, Onion.com?
Yes, of course. Just as Times of India is a second-hand version of New York Times or Economic Times is a me-too clone of The Economist. We are as similar to Onion.com as the vegetable onion (pyaaz, kaanda) is similar to the south Indian snack, uttapam.
So why did you select such a silly and meaningless name which sounds so similar to that site?
Originally, it was supposed to be called 'Cracking News'. But being crackheads, at the last minute we panicked. Under influence of alcohol, we cerebrated that Onion Uttapam would represent the pungency and bite of an Onion, softened by the deliciousness of dosa-like Uttapam. But ultimately we chose it as we felt that a name like Onionuttapam would be a safer way of introducing a satire news site in India.
How different you are to the numerous spoof sites that have sprung recently?
Not much different. We do as bad a job of providing good, enjoyable spoofs of news as any other fake news site.
What's the point of writing fake news stories? Don't you have anything better to do?
No!
Most of the articles suck. They are not funny or humorous.
Yes, we know. They are not meant to be uproariously funny. If you don't find them funny, maybe the humor is too subtle for you.
No, I think your site really sucks. You are just making excuses for doing such a poor job by claiming that it is subtle humor.
You are very perceptive.
