If you don't already know how an anonymous journalist 'Penpricks' from Goa took major Indian Newspapers for a ride, read it here..

Even more shocking and sorrier is the tale of a spoof story which was carried by Times of India, (whose editor once boasted of having the second most important job in India after that of Prime Minister) three years back as a serious news item despite the source of the story being a site named spoof.com..
It seems the editors occupying the 'seat of second most important job in India' don't even know the meaning of the word SPOOF..
TOI editors don't know what a spoof is
http://mallroad.blogspot.com/2005/05/toi-editors-dont-know-what-spoof-is.html
There was apparently a spoof on Aishwariya Rai on, well, spoof.com. I quote here a major chunk of it:
Roger Lodge, host of "Blind Date" --America's No. 1 TV dating humiliation show – said, "We've booked Aishwarya Rai to appear on a show segment where she will date Lorenzo -- a former stripper who wants to be a stay-at-home dad. He's tired of the superficial dating scene, but wants to form a love connection and score on the first date. We'll have to see how far he gets with Aishwarya."
Simone Sheffield, manager To Aishwarya Rai, was pleased to announce that Miss Rai would be appearing on a special version of "Jerry Springer: Too Hot For TV" episode where the beautiful actress will fight with a 380 pound woman in a trailer over some guy with a mullet, no teeth, and a 7th grade education.
Aishwarya says that she is thrilled for the chance to show her talent to such a discriminating audience. "I've heard some wonderful things about Jerry Springer. He told me that many of the actresses on his show go on to become great Hollywood screen stars. He promised me that no one would try and kiss me or rip off my clothes. I am still a bit confused about why I need bodyguards on his show, but I guess it will all work out OK. I hope so… my mother in India will be watching on the satellite!"
Now Soumya Menon of The Times of India in Delhi (must have) read the spoof, and reported it as straight news!!!!!
Ash to date stripper on US show

The Times of India, 4 May 2005
NEW DELHI: Seen as a Bollywood ambassador in the US, Ash has already done a good bit by making appearances on David Letterman's 'Late Show' and recently on Oprah Winfrey show.
And now she is gearing up for some informal, sporty appearances. Spoof.com has reported that Aishwarya will test the waters in the US market by first appearing on some popular TV shows.
Aishwarya Rai is slated to appear in a special version of the American show 'Jerry Springer: Too Hot For TV' episode in which she will contest with a 380 pound woman.
Simone Sheffield, manager to Aishwarya Rai, said, "Miss Rai would be appearing on a special version of 'Jerry Springer: Too Hot For TV' episode where the beautiful actress will fight with a 380 pound woman in a trailer over some guy with a mullet, no teeth, and a 7th grade education.
The website reported Aishwarya as saying that she is thrilled for the chance to show her talent to such a discriminating audience.

Knowing Ash's conservative nature, she has been promised that no one will touch her unduly or kiss her or try to rip off her clothes.
Apart from this show, Ash is also reported to be booked for Roger Lodge's show 'Blind Date'.

We'll just have to see how far he gets with Aishwarya.
When somebody must have pointed out the hilarious faux pas, the Times conveniently removed the article from their site..
