DAYS OF DADAGIRI OVER
Gone are the days of Dadagiri of the cable operators. Muscle power used to rule the roost when it comes capturing a territory for distributing Satellite channels. Goons and henchmen got an opportunity to be usefully employed through Cable operation business. They used to dictate terms to the corporate houses, by black outs and demanding their cut.
The cable operators made millions in black money by understating their actual subscription. Even today nobody has an exact tab on the number of cable connections in the country. The move to reign in cable operators through set top boxes was scuttled time and again for a decade. Now the status of Dadagiri of cable operators is eroding to a large extent and they are relenting to introduce set top boxes for relay of digitally clear pictures.
The era of mini dish antennas in the form of DTH is catching up like wild fire. TATA sky has been aggressively marketing their DTH platform with lucrative ties ups with TV companies and Megastores, DISH TV even though leaders have lost their sheen and trying to catch up. Sun TV seems to be the pick of the lot with a bundled offer of Rs 999 per year which is less than Rs 100/- per month.
Growth of internet has been stifled by the cablewallahs to a large extent, I remember the management of PACENET a broadband provider in Mumbai was scared to talk to his cable operator. In fact the cable operator was so powerful that he manipulated the pre-paid coupons selling price. He used to add Rs 300 to the MRP and asked the company to remove MRP. When I checked their website regarding tariff and complained the company coolly turned their eyes stating that the Cable operator is goonda with political connections we cannot do anything Sorry.
I am happy now cablewallahs are now stooping to the customer demands like any other ordinary business. They ruled the roost from 1991 upto 2007. In fact if the IT departments raid these cable wallahs they can assess how much wealth has been siphoned off from the national exchequer. Thankfully days of cable wallahs domination is over. We can now view uninterrupted signal feed through dish or TATA.
